Review
Two things I loved:
Personal 🕊
In the first book of the series, Milk and Honey, Rupi Kaur focused on her past relationship and the healing. In the Sun and Her Flowers, she writes about herself. I feel she was able to take the next step towards self-love and her happiness through her experiences. Also, the simplicity of these poems allows the readers to easily relate to these poems portraying the experiences of Kaur.
Flower Symbolism 🌻
The Sun and Her flowers are divided into four stages of flowers’ life—wilting, falling, rooting, rising, and blooming. In wilting, Kaur experiences self-hatred and loneliness from her past experiences, but decides she must move on. This begins her journey toward self-empowerment. In blooming, Kaur not only comes to terms with self-love, but encourages her readers to do so, as well. I fell in love with the metaphorical representation of stages in Kaur’s life to flowers’ life cycle. In the end, she blooms and learns to love herself.
One thing I wasn't a fan of:
I loved this read. If I had to choose one thing I wasn’t a fan of, then I would say some parts of her poems were repetitive. Although each page is filled with beautiful reminiscences of her experiences, many of the poems have similar themes to her first collection of poems, Milk and Honey.
