A Coming-of-Age Romance filled with Friendship, Family, and Love
This book was the most perfect coming-of-age romance I have read to date. The romance began with summer vacations and friendship, only to stem further into lust, infatuation, and eventually, love as the characters grew up together. From the beginning, the romance felt realāit made sense. Throughout their summers together, I could feel the attachment grow between the characters and ultimately change into more than simply friendship. This book had me staying up till 2 am only to know what comes next.Ā
A Realistic Portrayal of the Teen Years
Fortune depicted teens exactly as they are: teens. Filled with first experiences, insecurities, and mood swings, it felt like the most accurate portrayal of what it means to be a teenager in love. Love in your teens isnāt always mature and good; teen love is often messy and insecure. That is exactly what makes first love so beautiful. First love isnāt meant to last and it rarely does. It is more meant for growing so that one day, we can be prepared when we come across that everlasting love.Ā
