Review

Unique Interview-Style Storytelling

The format of the book is quite interesting. The story is told through snippets of interviews with different characters woven together as they recall their past. At first, this formatting was surprisingā€”I wasnā€™t sure if it would make much sense. Looking back, it was the perfect style of writing to complement the book's mystery: what is true and what is a lie.Ā

A Web of Truth and Lies

The book begins with a disclaimer that sets the plot as uncertain. Reids asks readers to consider how the characters will often recall the same events differently, completely biased in their point of view. This makes the book an interesting read! You find yourself questioning the characters and your perception of them. It is confusing in the best way possible!

Things I wasnā€™t a fan ofā€¦

The book felt unfinished for me. I wanted to learn about the final conversations some of these characters had with one another. How did Daisy and Billy part? How did Graham feel afterward? What happened to Eddie? What about Camilla and Billyā€™s daughter? What happened with Daisyā€™s parents?

It felt like the subplot lacked closure, leaving me feeling almost uneasy at the end. The feeling was even more pronounced because Reids invested her readers in these subplots throughout the bookā€”it wasnā€™t just about Billy, Camilla, and Daisy. It was so much more and yet, these other stories feel incomplete.

It was a great read, but I needed more closure for each of the characters!
