One thing I loved: The concept is promising
Colleen Hoover is truly experimenting with a novel concept: romance built upon seeing each other 1 day every year. This concept in itself is truly interesting, especially in the context of romance where readers typically enjoy seeing relationship development.
One thing I wasn't a fan of:
Unfortunately, I feel that the plot itself may have been too difficult. Writing a convincing romance is already difficult—then you add in that the characters only see each other once a year and now it feels impossible.
I found it difficult to invest myself in the relationship because it seemed like it was coming out of nowhere. The “instalove” didn’t make sense to me. Consequently, the book became a really difficult read; I was flipping through the pages mindlessly at some point.
I typically enjoy Colleen Hoover romances, but this one just wasn’t for me.
