Review
History Repeats Itself
I loved how this story was told: readers were able to engage with the past, present, and future simultaneously. Yet, it didn’t feel disconnected. It felt purposeful and intertwined. The history aids with understanding the characters because you get a glimpse into their childhood and upbringing.
Symbolism
Fire. I was waiting for something bad to happen—for someone to die or something worse. Yet, it didn’t come. At least, not in the way I expected. Instead, Reid symbolizes fire as something more eternal; a true symbol of family, struggle, and love.
Slight Confusion
At times, I would get lost. I wasn’t sure where the book was heading. This confused me and threw me off. Sometimes, I felt like I was reading pages and pages and pages trying to gain context to be able to understand the significance of the ending.
