Review

Two Different People Bonded by a Shared Traumatic Experience

The story follows Izzy and Nate, who are as opposite as two characters can beā€”they have contrasting upbringings, personalities, and career values. Yet, they find themselves attached through trauma. When their plane goes down, they only have each other to hold onto during uncertainty and distress. Set in a world of military fiction, I have truly read nothing like this novel, which makes it fascinating.Ā Ā

An Unexpected, Realistic Plot Twist

I wonā€™t spoil the plot twist for you, but trust me when I say, you have no idea that it is coming! Yet, it makes complete sense in a world of military fiction and post-traumatic stress disorderā€”especially in our society where men are often silenced and ashamed of reading out for mental health support. The plot twist was heartbreaking, but it made the story real.

Things I wasnā€™t a fan ofā€¦

During the first half of the book, I was a little annoyed at the characters and plot. They had an immense emotional connection and still desired each other but their past held them back from fighting for their relationship. The readers are led to believe that a key memory in their past wrecked their relationship beyond repair.Ā

But, readers arenā€™t let into the loop of what occurred until the last Ā¼ of the book which I found frustrating! At times, it made it difficult to understand the dynamics between Izzy and Nate simply because there was missing context. I wish this context was revealed earlier with more of a plot afterward.

Overall, I enjoyed this read and would recommend it to anyone interested in trying out a military romance!
