Review
The world-building and plot are outstanding
This book brought me back from my reading slump—It was everything I needed and more. Yarros built a world of dragons, war, and villains that came alive when you read the pages. I found myself daydreaming about being in this world going through the motions of a first year in the Rider’s Quadrant. Even the plot twists with the threshing and the ending, it was all so perfectly full-circle. I could not have asked for me.
The romance was spiced with a love triangle
Yarros resembles other incredible romantic authors with a classic love triangle with a little twist—the triangle becomes complicated when the dragon and their mates get involved. I found myself rooting for one male lead only to switch to the other partway through. And yes, there was definitely some spice which made the book even more fun and engaging even as war was on the rise :)
One thing I wasn’t a fan of…
I don’t have a critique for this book. Hence, the five-star rating!
To be honest, I was quite weary of this book because of all the hype on booktok. I avoided it for so long! But I must say, the book is worth the hype. I don’t remember the last time I loved a fantasy read this much—I even ordered the second and pre-ordered the third book.
I’m a morning person but I stayed up till 2 am finishing the book. The last time I loved a book this much was with ACOTAR by Sarah J. Mass. This was everything I needed and more to bring me back to the romantasy world.
