Review

Two things I loved:

1. The Plot: This story is not only about romanceā€”it is also about grief. The plot sets this grief in an unusual setting because their relationship (and marriage) was fast-paced, and missing some vital milestones. Elsie didnā€™t just have to grieve her husband, she had also to grieve how no one trusted her as Benā€™s wife.

2. Two ā€˜strangersā€™ overcoming grief: Imagine finding out that your only son died in an accident AND he has a supposed wife. Thatā€™s what Susan felt. I enjoyed reading about how these circumstances were navigated as ā€˜strangers,ā€™ while also recognizing they arenā€™t really strangers, are they? Not when they share the most important person in their lives: Ben.

One thing I wasn't a fan of:

I struggled with the ā€˜instant loveā€™ concept between Elsie and Ben. It seemed a little artificial to me; I almost couldnā€™t buy it. However, Iā€™m just not a fan of the instant love tropeā€”so thatā€™s probably it! If you like this type of trope, consider giving this book a read!
