Two things I loved:
*SPOILER ALERT
The slow-burn romance
From the very beginning, I had a soft spot for Chaol. What can I say? I just love an underdog. To finally see Celaena realize her feelings for Chaol and to see their romance progress was enjoyable! It felt intimate, deep, and meaningful. Iām sad it only lasted for a few chapters.
Plot twist
The riddle Celaena gave Chaol was the most intricate part of this sequel. Who wouldāve thought Maas wouldāve connected so many little conversations together? Definitely not me. I did not see it coming. But I must say, it makes total sense! I canāt wait to see how the new development of Celaenaās character plays into the third book.
One thing I wasn't a fan of:
I was surprised by the switch in Celaenaās feelings for Chaol. I think I expected a different reaction based on how deep her connection to Chaol seemed to be. I had trouble believing and understanding that could kill Chaol, but hey, maybe Iām just a hopeless romantic.
I also found the story to be slow at times! Everything happened so fast in the last 100 pages, but the prior pages seemed to be dragging on.
