Review
The Characters were Written Based on their Pasts
This book truly made a tribute to how our childhoods can shape the very core of who we are. Both writers came from such opposite childhoods and yet, they were bonded in pain, infidelity, and hope. Seeing how someone’s past can contribute to their greatest fears as adults was engaging. There’s something so ironic and beautiful about this cycle.
I wasn’t a fan of…
This book has been all over my social media. It was hyped and I was hopeful. Unfortunately, I felt that it was a letdown.
I struggled to connect to the romance—it felt so random! Perhaps, I needed more context. I would’ve enjoyed seeing Gus’ perspective from when they were in college to understand this tension between the characters.
I also found the inner monologues to be long and exhausting to read. I find it too easy to skim and skip through the pages. It wasn’t my personal style.
I wanted to see more interactions between the main leads and their pasts. One of their exes returned but it left me confused. I needed more from this part of the plot, it felt incomplete.
Honestly, this book just wasn't for me. I didn’t connect with the writing style, the characters, or the romance :(
