Life is a series of ups and downs. Sometimes, the day is as bright as it can be. Other times, the day seems to only know darkness. We cycle through ups and downs of varying magnitude nearly every day—it is inevitable.
In particular, I find different stages in life to be quite interesting in considering this cycle of ups and downs. At different time points in our lives, the ups and downs can look a little different (although, not always).
For instance, as someone in their 20s, I find happiness in traveling with friends and I face challenges with establishing my education and career; there are my present ups and downs. This picture of ups and downs may look different for someone older and well-traveled with an established career.
As such, I have started to recognize the impermanence of everyday life. Every life stage comes with its own unique set of ups and downs. So, what does this mean for us who are living in the present?
Well, it means just that. We need to continue living in the present. There are always going to be some challenges that may keep you up at night worrying, even though it may look different at various points in your life. But such worries do not mean that you should stop living those ups as well. When these challenges are present, I believe it is most important to not only live, but also remember the joys of your life!
Life is too short to be caught up in the inevitable obstacles we encounter. You deserve more than the downs that life has to offer. Remember that the ups are also inevitable and ensure you make time for those joyful moments.
Nothing is permanent—the joy or the pain. So, make the most of all life has to offer by living in the moment.
