Parents are imperfect too

We’ve all been there. Those days when our parents expected us to respect them even though they didn’t respect us—the ultimate double standard.

Sometimes, it is easy for us to forget that there isn’t a guide on how to parent. In fact, something that may seem so clearly wrong to do as a parent in our eyes may simply be the only right thing to do in their eyes.

But then, it gets even more complicated. Why? Well, sometimes it is not the right thing to do even in their eyes.

Then, why do they do it?

Well, why do you do it? Why do you do things that you regret later? Why do you lose your anger? Why do you yell at others? That’s the thing. If we can’t be in control all the time because it is the very nature of being human, how can we expect differently from them?

Ultimately, that’s it! None of us are perfect and none of us will be perfect. We all have bad days. We all lose our temper here and there. We all make the wrong choice every now and then.

So, the next time your parents disrespect you, think about this: they’re not perfect and neither are you. Acceptance and understanding goes a long way.
