Some days, I wake up on the wrong side of the bed. I feel anxious, I feel uneasy and I feel insecure. Most of us are familiar with such feelings. It is a universal experience; you just can’t wait for some days to end.
During these days, grounding is most powerful. Grounding is a coping mechanism that allows you to soothe yourself with various activities. Today, I would like to share some personal grounding techniques I use.
In terms of my personal grounding, I have three go-to strategies:
Meditation: I recite a verse out loud while thinking about different people each time to wish these people the best. The verse begins with me and wanting the best for me first. Read more about my meditation techniques here: LINK
Mind Dump: Some people refer to this as journaling, I refer to this as a mind dump to reduce the pressure to do it every day. I sit down and write down what I’m feeling to try and understand myself better. I am honest with myself about who I am feeling this about and try to reason why I feel this way.
Workout: I enjoy running on my treadmill when there is frustration, anger, or sadness to work out. The expending of energy helps me feel more in control and gives me the time to think.
As you can tell, there is no right or wrong grounding technique! It is up to you and what grounds YOU. For instance, perhaps playing basketball ground you. Or maybe you like to be creative and drawing does it for you. Or maybe, you need to go on a walk or read! It is entirely up to you—that’s the beauty of it!
Grounding has saved me from my times of inner turmoil and overthinking—it is truly a power. Inner turmoil is a universal experience and it is completely valid. Embrace these moments and take control.
I hope these thoughts provide insight! Grounding has gotten me through some of the hardest moments of my life! I hope grounding provides you support, too! <3
All my best,
N
