Coping with the Waiting Game

Have you ever been in a situation where you’re waiting for a result? You’ve done everything you can and now you must count the days until you finally know the result. 


Right now, I am waiting for a result to be available. It feels agonizing and hopeful at the same time. I am agonized by the uncertainty and the waiting game. I am hopeful because the result is not known and I am free to daydream about a favorable result.


It is pretty natural to feel a conflict of emotions during the waiting game. So, how can we cope to make the most of this experience?


  1. Re-frame: Make peace with how feeling stressed about a result does not change the result. Recognize how the result will eventually become available and how worrying about it now will not make the result available sooner. 

  2. Plan: Reflect on how you’re life would look like with a positive and negative result. Make plans for both to gain some control in this time of uncertainty. Regardless of when the result becomes available and what the result is, you can find comfort in how you will have a plan!

  3. Reflect: Recognize how your worth is not determined by the result. You are more than the outcome of this result. You are not a failure. You are human. You will have successes and failures. You are worth it!
