We can’t choose our family. We can’t change who we are related to by blood. Sometimes, this means we have to deal with difficult circumstances simply because someone is ‘family’—and that’s exhausting.
However, friends are different. These are people you CHOOSE to have in your life; they aren’t people that are bound to you from the get-go.
In case you need to hear this, please remember that friends are only supposed to bring positivity to your life. They should make you laugh and bring joy to your laugh. If you have friends that seem to do more of the opposite—whether that’s tearing you down, gossiping, or judging you—you need to cut them out of your life.
Why? Because. You. Deserve. Better.
As humans, we innately have a need to belong, to be loved, and to be accepted. This can make us put up with people for longer than we need in the hopes that things will turn out okay.
But if you’ve had enough, it is completely okay to cut them out of your life. It doesn’t make you selfish. It doesn’t make you a bad person.
You deserve to be happy and to be around people that make you happy.
Put yourself first.
