Introduction

Life is talented at throwing nasty curveballs that loop us around until we go a little crazy. Sometimes, we just need a moment to re-focus on our priorities; the biggest priority of all is yourself. Me, myself and I. ♡

In this blog, I share 3 of my favourite personal development books that help me prioritize what I need in my life. We will consider a book about resilience, then one about habits and finally, a journal about empowerment. 🌹

Let’s get into it!

1. You are Awesome by Neil Parisha for Resilience

📌Read my book review: E+N Lifestyle

This book is one of the first personal development books that I’ve ever picked up. Why did I pick it up?

🌳Recently, I’ve reached some milestones: independent living, university finances and post-secondary education. With these milestones, I encountered difficulties as well! During my first semester of university, I basically had weekly emotional meltdowns. Everything was affecting me.

This is why I decided that I need to slow down and take some time to build my resilience. I needed to be more thick-skinned, more logical and more in control of myself. This book truly helped me to do just that. Thus, if you’re in a similar situation as I was, please consider picking up this read. I promise it’s worth it 🙈

2. Atomic Habits by James Clear for Creating Good Habits

As I briefly mentioned earlier, my first semester of university was a mess; not only did I need to adapt to a different style of education, I also had to deal with online classes😭

After my first semester, I realized that everything I did in high school was not going to cut it for university. I needed to create new habits for organization, time management, school and so much more, but this time, tailor everything to my university life 📚

💡This book is perfect for just that. James Clear proposes a clear-cut framework for creating habits which has made a real impact on my life. I cannot recommend this book enough! It is something that everyone can benefit from reading because we all have goals that require habits for us to accomplish them.

Trust me, this book is relevant to you. Even if you think you have your habits nailed down, read this book because why not improve your habits further? 🦋

3. Becoming by Michelle Obama for Empowerment

Journalling has proven to be an effective method to improve one’s mental health 🧠 This is why I began journalling last year; I really needed a mental health boost.

I tried out the traditional journaling method of recounting the events of the day and talking about feelings. This method did not work for me: it was too broad. I needed something more because my days were basically the same, especially since my university was operating online 💻

🕊Michelle Obama’s journal was the perfect solution to what I needed. Targeted at empowering individuals, this book provided prompts for me to consider and write about. I was invited to reflect on deep, thoughtful questions that helped me re-focus on who I am and who I want to be!

If you’d like a journal with prompts that help you grow as a human being, definitely pick this book up🌻

These 3 books are honestly some of my favourite reads! If you’ve read them, drop your thoughts below in the comment section; I would love to chat with you about these topics😇

Good luck on your journey to self-development :)
