My Favourite Flashcard App - Anki

Introduction

Flashcards are a great way to prepare for quizzes, tests and exams: they allow you to actively recall material. If flashcards are used with spaced repetition, you almost become unstoppable because this allows you to beat the forgetting curve 🙌

These days, there are various methods of utilizing flashcards. For example, one can handwrite their flashcards on cue cards. Others prefer to use existing flashcards decks on Quizlet or create their own. These two methods allow you to practice active recall! However, I would like to introduce you to a less known method of utilizing flashcards: Anki 🌠

Anki has saved my grades more times than I can count. They have a feature that is a game-changer when it comes to beating the forgetting curve. Let’s take a look at Anki and its novelty!📚

So, what is Anki?

As mentioned previously, Anki is a flashcard app! You can create numerous decks for different classes and practice them on the go. The app is also free, which is perfect for students🔖

In particular, Anki is popular among medical students. Why? It has a feature that controls how frequently you see a flashcard when you’re practicing a deck. Essentially, once you’ve practiced a card in the deck, you are presented with the following options:

You are being asked to access how difficult it was to recall the content on the card. Once you’ve picked an option, Anki uses this information to change how often you are asked to recall the card. For instance, if I pick “Again” because I had great difficulty with the flashcard, Anki will show me the same card soon. On the other hand, if I choose “Easy,” Anki may take up to several days to show me the card again! 😇

With this simple feature, you are able to strengthen the weak spots while still revising the material you are confident with! Anki may not be the most aesthetically pleasing app, but this feature is truly worth it 🙈

How do I install Anki?

Anki can be installed onto any electronic device, such as your phone and laptop—I recommend both 🌳

For your laptop, use the following link to install the app:

For your phone, search up the app in your app store and download it! The app looks similar to this design:

I hope you give Anki a try! It honestly makes life so much easier, so I highly recommend it🌥
