Creating the Perfect Work Environment

Introduction

The context in which every event takes place is crucial to the event itself. Similarly, our productivity is linked to the context in which we choose to be productive—our work environment 🌳

The definition of a “work environment” is subjective. For some, it is a desk, and for others, it is an entire room or even an apartment. Personally, my work environment is my room at my university residence. This room means everything to me! It is the place in which I feel that my dreams are in my grasp: it is where I am most productive 🌻

In this blog, I will discuss how I created my work environment! How did I transform a small dormitory room into the place I feel most at home? Hopefully, these tips can help you transform your current environment into a place that boosts your productivity and efficiency! 💜

Keep it Minimal

The first step in creating any space is asking yourself: What is essential for the area I want to make? 🖇

Every space requires different items and accessories that vary with the purpose the space is to hold. This concept also applies to making your perfect work environment! Take the time to reflect on those essential items that you often use when you are being productive. These items can be as simple as lined paper or an absolute necessity such as a desk lamp. What do you need to be productive?📚

📌 To help you reflect on these thoughts, I prepared a list of items that I found to be essential to my work environment:

  • Desk lamp

  • Sticky notes

  • Coasters

  • Water bottle

  • Stationery

  • Plain paper

  • Clock

Accessibility is Key

Just as it is important to identify the essential items of your work necessary, it is equally significant to ensure these items are accessible to you. Essentially, all humans are lazy. We always complete things that seem easy. Thus, it is crucial to apply this principle to your productivity! 😇

Ensure that all the items you identified as significant are located in areas accessible in your work environment. It is even better if you can keep this in an obvious place where they can easily be seen; we are more likely to reach for things that are right in front of our faces 🖥

For instance, I have my water bottle next to my laptop on my desk to ensure that I drink a lot of water while I complete my tasks! In addition, if you have drawers or any other storage compartment in your work environment, place the most used and vital items closer to you. I use my top desk drawer for stationery and middle and lower drawers for extra stationery and makeup! 🖋

Trust me; this is a life-changing trick. You will find your productivity habits changing for the better in no time! ⭐

Be Creative

The final tip—also my favourite tip—is to personalize your work environment! To be productive, our work environment needs to motivate us to work. In other words, the area needs to be pleasant, somewhere that we want to be in 🌴

How can you make a work environment pleasant? Have fun with it! For instance, choose a theme of some sort, whether it’s your favourite colour, book, aesthetic or movie! It can be anything you want it to be! I recommend taking a look at Pinterest for inspiration 📱

I chose a simple, minimal aesthetic. My work environment has fake and real plants, some white accents and a large window; the structure of your room can be part of your creativity, as well! Hence, my window is my favourite part of the environment. My desk is placed against my window to observe a beautiful view as I complete my tasks. I highly recommend taking your time personalizing your environment! ⛅

I hope these tips help you create a work environment that you love <3 Good luck in your productivity journey! 💛
